Deep Imagination at the Edge of Wild Nature: Part 1mygarden021010 005

Summary

What if the natural world was fully animate and imbued with soul? If a rock, the wind or a tree have their own speech and desire a relationship with us what would it mean to you and to the Earth? Can we learn to hear the song of a place and respond with a  “prayer” of our own?

May is spring time in Edmonton, the natural world is awakening from the deep sleep of winter and new vibrant energy enlivens everything.  In this 2 day workshop we will explore the edge of wild nature in Edmonton’s river valley using deep imagination, art and experiential learning in group and individual formats.

Please note that participants must be able to do light backpacking, hiking and be willing to be outdoors in any weather. Part 2 is scheduled for fall 2016.

Creating a Different Future: Soul, Imagination and the Mystery of Dreams027

Summary

Do you sense a loss of meaning or separateness in your life and with life in general? Then in unexpected moments do you experience deep connection with a place in nature or with a dream?  Rationalism forms the ground of the belief system of modern civilization. This way of thinking separates us from our own depths, from each other and from the natural world and has led to the global crises we all presently face. Consequently this mode of thought cannot be used to solve them. Where do we look for the source of something new? What have we forgotten since the dawning of Enlightenment? In this 2 day workshop participants will begin an exploration of the dream as a source for creating a different, more meaningful future for all life on Earth.  Using our soulful imagination with modalities such as art, movement, play and with what Mystery brings, we will deepen our experience of the dream in this crucial time for humanity and the Earth.

Contemplative Photography Meets Imaginative Photography: Something New is in the Air: Part 1IMG_1071

Summary

East meets west in this experiential workshop in a summer setting. Contemplative photography embodies the tradition of clear seeing and discernment whereas in imaginative photography the soul becomes the relational energy that greets the outer world. In this workshop participants will begin to learn the qualities of each approach to picture taking. Our terrain will be in the city or out in nature in order to give full rein to our senses and sensibilities. Select pictures from each individual will be viewed in a supportive group setting to gain a deeper feel for the elements involved and the variety of picture speech each participant brings to this work.

In Part 2 this fall we will first deepen our skills in contemplative and imaginative photography. Then we will set to work learning to create something new from the synthesis of these two ways of seeing, being and picture taking.

*Participants must have basic technical skill in photography and a good point and shoot or SLR digital camera.*
